The UAE residents woke up to an overcast sky and may experience the same till Thursday. The good news is, summer is over and the winter season has gradually begun, an official from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) told Khaleej Times.
As the weather changes, rain will be a common occurrence in the next couple of days. "Low clouds coming from the Red Sea and cool air in the upper atmosphere will form convective clouds associated with rainfall and fresh northwesterly winds," the NCM said.

On Tuesday, moderate to heavy rains were reported in some parts of Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman. Lightning and thunder were reported in the northern and eastern parts of the country as dark clouds enveloped the skyline. Hail was sighted in Al Dhaid area as light to moderate rainfall was recorded in other parts of the country.
Rainfall was intense over Fujairah Port. Starting from Sunday until Tuesday, the NCM has recorded a total of 102.8mm rainfall, the most amount of rainfall in a three-day period in the northern emirate since 1977. The centre also recorded 50.7mm of rain over Makhariz, southwest of the UAE, while Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah have so far received the normal amount of rain between 3-4mm.
Rain is expected in scattered parts of the country until Thursday, and the intensity will be from light to moderate, the NCM added.
Tuesday's average maximum temperature hovered between 30 and 34 Celsius in coastal areas; 31-35 in internal areas; and 22-27 in mountain areas. While the lowest average temperature was recorded between 23 and 28 Celsius in coastal areas; 21-25 in internal areas; and 13-20 in mountain areas. The average temperature will remain in the coming days.
The NCM has warned sea vessels in the Arabian Gulf against the chance of towering cloud formations with fresh northwesterly winds, reaching 40 km/hr. Moderate winds may blow dust over exposed areas with chances of cloud activity.

Drive safely

Meanwhile, authorities have urged motorists to take extra precaution when driving in the rain. Dubai and Sharjah Police said it is important to leave enough distance between vehicles and drive at a reduced speed when it starts to drizzle.
"Motorists are advised not to visit areas with wadis and dams due to the extreme threat they pose during the rainy season," the Sharjah Police posted on its Twitter page.
The Roads and Transport Authority also said: "As winter is around the corner, check the validity of the brakes, tires, and headlights of your vehicle before starting your journey. Your safety is our priority.
