In a video doing the rounds online, teachers and students from the African countries can be seen praying together in the schools that are named after Sheikh Hamdan.
The visionary leader was behind the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Educational Project in Africa. According to Al Maktoum Foundation, it has been described by the African Union as the most important charitable educational project to be executed in Africa by a single financier.
In the video, one of the school staff says that all teachers and students in the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum school are expressing their deepest condolences to the Al Maktoum family for their loss.
“We express our condolences to the family of our father and our brother, and we pray to Allah to bless his soul and grant him paradise,” the teacher stated.
Sheikh Hamdan’s vision was that providing quality education would be the best solution to serve millions of people in the least fortunate parts of the world.
Since the launch of the project in 1997, it has grown to serve 40 schools and colleges in 22 African nations.
In 2019, the estimated number of students in the Sheikh Hamdan schools in Africa totalled 50,000 in different phases of education.
