Dubai students would be guided towards a healthier lifestyle that includes 30-minute physical activities per day and increased intake of fruits and vegetables as part of a comprehensive school health policy.
By the beginning of the next academic year, pupils would be encouraged to follow 12 steps as part of the policy that is being jointly implemented by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).
The five-year policy aims to encourage healthier food consumption and decrease obesity rates among students aged between seven and 15 years.
The 12 steps include encouraging students to eat five portions of vegetables and fruits per day and 150 minutes of physical activity per week.
Humaid Al Qattami, director-general of the DHA, said: "The school health policy will lay the foundation for schools to adhere to certain standards to ensure physical, emotional, social and psychological well-being of students."
