Having a baby? A convertible suite will enhance your experience
Fakeeh University Hospital provides expectant mothers with a unique feature to comfortably deliver in the same room as their admission room
Conceiving and welcoming a tiny bundle of joy into the world is an indescribable journey for parents. During the process, expectant mothers require special care and the best support to ensure their birthing experience is memorable and pain-free.
Fakeeh University Hospital, in Dubai Silicon Oasis, understands the importance of providing the best experience to parents.
With a healthcare legacy that spans over four decades in Saudi Arabia, the hospital offers specialised medical experience in a state-of-the-art healthcare facility.
The new 350-bed 'smart' hospital, located in Silicon Oasis, Dubai has a sprawling one million square feet area. The facility houses a specialised area for birthing with several luxury rooms and a dedicated operation theatre for emergencies pertaining to delivering of babies.
Labour, delivery, and recovery rooms
At Fakeeh University Hospital, parents can rest assured of best-in-class features, like the Birthing Centre or the labour, delivery, and recovery room (LDR room). The advantage of such a room is that the mother does not have to leave the room for her delivery. Once settled in, it will be utilised for labour and birth, including recovery. There is no need to go in and out of the labour room in the peak of labour pain and contractions.
Birthing centres have become the preferred choice of expecting parents, as it creates a more comfortable and soothing environment. Each room has an evidence-based design, fully equipped for all kinds of births. The hospital has ensured that these rooms can also handle minor emergencies and procedures.
After the child is born, the room has the equipment to handle newborn care as well. In case of emergencies, the Birthing Centre has a set-up with life-saving resuscitation equipment and a warmer for the baby.
An additional benefit is that close members of the family, especially the father, can be together throughout the experience.
Led normal delivery programme-wife-mid
To further enhance the experience, Fakeeh University Hospital provides the mid-wife led program, for mothers who prefer having a 'natural' delivery, rather than a medicated delivery. On-board seasoned midwives provide one-to-one care, while experienced resident doctors and senior doctors are available to deal with any emergency during the second stage of labour.
Water birthing
Another feature to make birthing comfortable is the water birthing at Fakeeh University Hospital. It facilitates normal delivery with non-medicated labour and less pain during the first stage of labour. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG), immersion in water in the first stage of labour may help shorten its duration. It may also decrease the need for an epidural or other spinal pain relief, and lowers the chances of stress incontinence post-delivery.
Protection during the pandemic
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has necessitated several changes to the way hospitals are run. One big advantage of the dedicated birthing rooms is that the mother to be is protected from the risk of using a common labour room and active labour waiting areas. Once admitted, the mother does not go to another room, except in the case of a C-section, where a diligently sterilised operation theatre is maintained. It is safe to conclude that birthing centres provide much-needed safety and protection to expecting mothers and their families, as almost everything is handled within the confines of their rooms.
Neonatal intensive care unit
There are times when the newborn may require special attention after birth. For this, Fakeeh University Hospital has a fully-equipped high-end neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with 16 bassinets. It is led by an experienced consultant neonatologist and a team of experienced specialists and nurses.
The parenthood programme
Fakeeh University Hospital is aware that the pregnancy and delivery stages are vital for parents. Thus, under the parenthood programme, the hospital ensures that its team gives necessary information, skills, and support to every couple. The hospital is fully involved with the parents and provides them with various tools to strengthen their parenting skills.
Fakeeh University Hospital also provides a unique experience through the Fakeeh Life Programme, which includes follow-up visits and home visits with continuous support from a breastfeeding consultant, even after being discharged from the hospital.
