Barbecuing or smoking shisha in Ajman's public parks, green areas and beaches would invite a fine of Dh1,000, authorities have warned.
The Ajman municipality has launched an inspection campaign targeting the practices of barbecuing and smoking shisha in parks, green areas and beaches, said Khalid Al Hosani, director of Health and environment department at the municipality.
The emirate had banned these practices to maintain the health and safety of the residents and visitors. The parks, green areas and beaches are the most vital places visited by residents and it’s our duty to ensure they have an ideal and healthy environment to enjoy it,” he added.

Ahmed Saif Al Muhairi, Director of the Agriculture and Public Parks Department at the municipality, said that it has been noticed that some residents who spent evenings in these areas violate the regulation by smoking shisha. The municipality has already installed signboards in parks and carried out awareness campaigns to educate the residents of the importance of preserving the environment.
Al Muhairi said that the municipality has issued a number of fines and warned many violators for smoking shisha and littering the green areas.
The municipality inspectors also noticed that families allow their children to play football in green areas, causing damage to the fences, seats and umbrellas placed there, in addition to throwing waste in public places. Such violations cost the municipality a lot of money and effort to repair the facilities, he added.
