Stock market opened with modest gain on Wednesday marking third consecutive session in the upward gain
The successful hosting of the UFC Fight Island Triple Header in the Capital marked the momentous return of fans to live sports events in the region, proving Abu Dhabi’s capabilities to host visitors while following all safety precautions, said a top official.
The three-event mixed martial arts series at the newly opened Etihad Arena on Yas Island, was led by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT).

Collaboration was the key to success, Fatima Al Baloushi, deputy director, events bureau at the DCT – Abu Dhabi, told Khaleej Times. “The DCT – Abu Dhabi, by now, has mastered the ‘bubble’ concept,” she said.
All the UFC athletes, staff and event personnel were required to complete a 48-hour quarantine, record a double negative PCR result to gain access to the bubble, with more testing thereafter.
“Regular PCR testing, at 72-hour intervals, was conducted for the duration of the UFC event. A total of 12,652 PCR tests were done.,” she added.
Al Baloushi pointed out the Capital is set to host more events while remaining committed to the highest health and safety standards. “Abu Dhabi boasts modern tourism, events and business infrastructure and a culture of true Arabian hospitality. Following the success of Fight Island, we have received proposals from numerous sports and events organisers to host their events. We look forward to announcing events that cater to the interests and preferences of all tourists and travellers,” she said.
“The fact that Abu Dhabi is able to welcome fans back to live events, when much of the world remains at a standstill, is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s readiness to host visitors with the highest standards of safety in place.”
As part of Abu Dhabi’s efforts to ensure a safe reopening to tourists, more than 240 employees working in Yas Island hotels have received the first dose of vaccine. The drive complements the protocols already in place across the Capital, including the Department-led ‘Go Safe’ certification, which enforces global health and safety practices across the hotels, malls, attractions, hospitality facilities and public places.
The initiatives support Abu Dhabi’s wider efforts to combat the spread of Covid-19. “We are constantly monitoring the global situation and look forward to welcoming more visitors.”
