Rush hour traffic returned to major roads connecting Dubai and Sharjah on Wednesday evening on a day when businesses resumed in Dubai.
Al Ittihad Road, Mohamed Bin Zayed Road and Al Khail road saw brisk traffic as motorists made their way back home after what was a first day back at work for many after weeks.
It was a characteristic bumper-to-bumper traffic around 6pm on several busy streets as thousands who returned to work in Dubai rushed back to beat Sharjah's 8pm deadline for nighttime coronavirus sterilisation programme.

Earlier in the morning, Khaleej Times journalists fanned out across Dubai to gauge the excitement of residents who gradually and cautiously trudged back to shopping malls and restaurants in gloves and masks.

A stringent Covid-19 hygiene protocol has been spelt out as the emirate reopened leisure venues like cinemas and recreational venues like Dubai Dolphinarium, among others.
