Two Emiratis died and another seriously injured after their speeding vehicle veered off the road due to tyre burst and flipped over multiple times on Mahafiz-Nazawi road on Monday night.
The accident happened after the rear left tyre of the vehicle exploded and the driver couldn't control the car due to its excessive speed, said Lt Col Mohammed Al Alai, director-general of Sharjah traffic and patrol department. The vehicle veered off the highway towards the right, turned over several times and then came to a halt 73 meters away from the main road, he added.
The exploded tyre came off the car and got flown 205 meters away from the vehicle, while causing massive damage to the road surface, the top cop pointed out. This suggests that the vehicle was being driven at a very fast speed, he said.
The operating room had received a report at 4,30pm on Monday about a horrific crash. Upon receiving the report, police patrols, and national ambulances rushed to the site and transferred all the three to the hospital, which pronounced the two dead. The third man was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital.
Lt Col Al Alai urged drivers to adhere to the speed stipulated for each road, ensure the safety of the tyres and take caution when driving, and not be distracted by anything while at the wheel.
