Soon, four new traffic fines for UAE motorists

Abu Dhabi - Fines and black points to make roads safer for pedestrians.

Motorists who commit violations by speeding through crossings and not giving priority to pedestrians will be fined Dh500 and given 6 black points.
Abu Dhabi Police will soon activate the new warning radar devices stationed at various pedestrian crossings and school areas throughout the emirate.
Three more fines will be instated as well in this regard:
1. Dh500 fine for stopping your vehicle on the pedestrian crossing itself
2. Dh400 fine for stopping your vehicle in a way that threatens pedestrians or prevents their safe passage across the road
3. Dh400 fine for parking your vehicle on the pavement
The warning devices use artificial intelligence systems to give pedestrians priority while at crosswalks.     
Further projects will target building pedestrian bridges and tunnels as well as closing off holes or spaces between fences to maintain safe passageways for all residents.
Studies show that most traffic accidents in Abu Dhabi happen because pedestrians are not given priority.
Police called on motorists to be extra cautious around pedestrians, to lower speed near crosswalks, giving them priority and driving slowly in shopping malls and industrial areas.
Pedestrians have also been cautioned to cross from designated areas for their safety and the safety of other road users.  
Abu Dhabi to get new traffic 'warning' radars
Police have nearly concluded the trial phase testing new warning devices installed for pedestrian crossings throughout Abu Dhabi.
The new "Hather" devices, which rely on artificial intelligence technology, will be installed in school areas and pedestrian-heavy crossings.
Each device contains two screens, one for oncoming vehicles and the other for pedestrians, as well as two cameras.
One camera will scan vehicle licence plates, and the other will allow for visual analysis.
A central unit will monitor the pedestrian crossing itself as well as the surrounding area.
