Following requests from parents, the customer council of the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) is considering modifying the timings of school bus trips in Dubai to align them with the world average of 40 minutes.
This idea came out a recent session conducted by the RTA with various school transport operators and other stakeholders to upgrade the mechanisms of home-to-school transportation services in the emirate.
The RTA received a number of ideas and suggestions from attendees,  whic include reviewing smart applications related to school transport services, particularly providing smart information to parents that enables them to follow up with their children during their trip to and from school through smart phones and cameras on buses.
The RTA customer council also recommended considering using both sides of the airport tunnel in order to ensure timely arrival and return of students and reduce buses operational and financial costs.
Moreover, the council recommended to the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) conducting educational training sessions for school bus drivers and school bus supervisors on how to deal with students in a civilized manner, taking into consideration their different grades; how to please parents and raise their satisfaction rating, the RTA said in a statement.
"The aim is to utilize student's travel time, follow up supervisors and drivers closely and issue a legislation banning insults to students during transportation," the RTA added.
Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, member of the board of directors and chairperson of the RTA Customer Council, headed the session, which was held at the premises of Public Transport Agency in Muhaisnah. Also present were Ahmed Mahboob, executive director of customer service, Mohammed Al Dhahouri, DTC director of school transport and representatives of school transport authorities.
