The Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Police have identified 16 dangerous U-turn locations in the emirate, according to reports.
The police had previously closed 63 dangerous U-turns to make the roads safer in the emirate.
The RAK Police are also mulling to turn 12 of the 16 U-turns into roundabouts or bridges after several fatal accidents were reported from there.
Colonel Ahmad Al Deen Al Nabi, director of traffic and patrols at the general directorate of RAK Police, said that the police issued the suggestion to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and the General Services Department at RAK, as these areas fall under the purview of both entities as local and federal responsibilities.
The U-turns specified in the list include Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street opposite to Emirates Club; two U-turns, one along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Salem Street in Rifa'a near Al Jazirah Al Hamra opposite Mina Al Arab and the other near the Adnoc petrol station in Jazirah Al Hamra; and two U-turns near the Ras Al Khaimah Poultry and Feeding Company.
The rest of the U-turns under purview are one near the Jalfar pharmaceutical company; three U-turns linking northern regions of RAK along Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasim Road, two in Ithn and one in Ghail areas.
The four U-turns represent entry and exit points for Sheikh Zayed Road.
Another dangerous U-turn spot is near the Julfar Sharisha area leading to Al Rams near the Emirates Transport branch and schools.
A woman lost her life in an incident at this site. The latest U-turn accident involved a boy and his father who were killed in Al Dhait last month.
