The Ajman Police have launched a crackdown targeting vehicles parked around mosques blocking traffic, especially during Fridays.
Lt-Col Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, director of the Traffic and Patrol Department of the Ajman Police, said that the department has also launched an awareness campaign to educate motorists about the consequences of parking vehicles in a manner that obstructs traffic around mosques during the prayer time. The campaign has been initiated after the police received several complaints from motorists, who use the parking lots and roads around mosques. "Such obstruction also prevents emergency vehicles from reaching the roads around these mosques."

He added that  the launch of the campaign was aimed at educating drivers about the importance of adhering to proper parking and reducing the phenomenon of parking vehicles in the middle of the roads or sidewalks as well as close to other vehicles, blocking them from moving.
He pointed out that parking in a way that blocks traffic would cause a fine of Dh1,000 and six black points while blocking other vehicles by parking behind them would result in a fine of Dh500. Parking at crossroads, turns or in the pavement would also attract a fine of Dh500. "It has been noticed that many drivers leave their cars in operation mode to go for prayer. This is considered negligence that would expose them to thefts," he said.
The police have intensified patrols around mosques and all the violators will be fined as per the law, Lt-Col Al Falasi added.
