All the major highways in the country will be expanded, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development has announced. The Dh780 million road development project is expected to ease traffic particularly between Dubai and Sharjah.

Al Etihad (E11), Mohamed Bin Zayed (E311) and Emirates (E611) roads are among the highways that will be expanded, the ministry said on Monday.

In all, road works worth Dh3.38 billion will be carried out by the ministry, from beginning of 2020.
The ministry is studying on developing alternative routes to avoid congestion during the road works on these above roads that link all parts of the country.
The road expansion work on Al Ittihad road will be completed in two years. While, it may cause inconvenience to motorists, but will raise the road's efficiency in the long run and end congestion issue for commuters between Dubai and Sharjah.

This is part of Dh10 billion worth of infrastructure development works that the ministry will carry out as part of its five-year plan till 2021.
