Now, Sharjah commuters heading to Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah no longer have to travel to Al Jubail station to take a bus. New stops have been opened in the emirate, Sharjah's Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has announced.

One bus stop is located near Rona Square at the end of Al Sharq street, while another has been put up in Al Rifa area. Both stops were added to the route of Intercity Bus No. 115, according to a top official.

Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, director of SRTA for transport affairs, said these will allow a lot of passengers to save time, money and effort, especially since the number of people relying on public buses has been growing rapidly.

"Intercity Bus No. 115 is a key bus route that has seen huge demand from the passengers," he said.

Recent figures show a four per cent increase in the number of intercity bus passengers in Sharjah.

"This is mainly due to the relentless effort SRTA is exerting to support and develop public transport," Al Jarwan said.

In the first seven months of the year, up to 4.5 million people have used Sharjah's intercity public buses. Bus No 117, connecting Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, and Bus No 112, connecting Sharjah and Ajman, have seen the highest number of passengers, he pointed out.
