As fog starts rolling in across the country, the Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) reminded motorists to drive safely in an awareness campaign it launched on Tuesday.
Drivers are urged to stop driving in low visibility and leave a safe distance between vehicles to avoid accidents, said Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, director of the traffic and patrols.
He also clarified the misconceptions about the use of warning lights while driving, as they should be used to warn other vehicles when their cars are stationary.
Implemented by the various sectors of ADP, the campaign is an Abu Dhabi Joint Traffic Safety Committee initiative in coordination with the transport department. It highlighted the importance of safe driving on foggy roads to avert accidents, as well as serious injuries and deaths.

Al Khaili also stressed that broadcasting warning messages on the national early notification system and traffic instructions on smart towers are a must in curbing unfortunate incidents.
Under the traffic laws, driving in foggy conditions without using low or foggy lights are punishable by Dh500 fine and four black points.
These measures also include banning trucks and worker transportation buses with a "14-24-60" passenger capacity from driving during foggy weather, he added, noting that awareness messages will be posted on ADP's social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in Arabic, English and Urdu.
Transport companies that use trucks and buses are also urged to commit to the "14-24-60" passenger capacity regulation, as well as the implementation of Article No.10 from the amended regulation of Traffic Law No. 178, which imposes a Dh1,000 fine and four traffic points on heavy vehicles driving in prohibited areas, Al Khaili said.
DO'S AND DON'TS
