668 cars impounded at offender's home in Sharjah this year

Sharjah - The vehicles were seized due to a host of serious violations.

The Sharjah Police have confiscated 668 cars for a number of serious traffic violations since the beginning of this year till the end of April and made its owners keep them at their homes after installing GPS trackers to detect their movement.
The police are constantly improving their services to achieve strategic objectives which are in line with the objectives and visions of the Ministry of the Interior to enhance customer satisfaction and facilitate procedures for the public, said Maj. Gen. Marzooq Khalfan Al Naqbi, director of the vehicle reservation branch, traffic and patrols department. "The home confiscation service has been welcomed by violating motorists who abide by its restrictions."
Major Al Naqbi noted that the vehicles were seized due to a host of serious violations, such as driving with an expired licence, exceeding the maximum speed limit of more than 60km/hr, jumping red signal, overloading passengers and so on.
He explained that the owners of the confiscated cars will only have to pay the fines imposed due to the violation. They would not be charged for the GPS tracking device installed in the vehicles. The police have only granted a stipulated 50-meter space at the seized car owner's house to move the vehicle. If a car moves beyond this, it would send an alert signal to the police and the confiscation period would be doubled, he added.
The police also remove the licence plate from the car and circulate the registration number across the UAE.
He explained that patrols are deployed in all intersections of the city during peak hours to regulate traffic and prevent jams as well as serious violations during the holy month of Ramadan. The vehicles that commit serious violations will immediately be home confiscated, he pointed out.
