Police in UAE have stepped up their summer safety campaign for motorists, offering tips and advice on how to maintain their cars in this scorching heat. On Thursday, Abu Dhabi Police issued a statement regarding tyre-related accidents in the emirate.
The statement said that approximately 5,376 fines were issued to motorists for driving vehicles with expired or damaged tyres during the first half of 2019.
The police added that during the same period, two persons had died and 12 were injured in seven tyre-related traffic accidents.
The police urged motorists against driving with tyres that do not meet safety standards - especially during summer time - since tyres are at the risk of exploding due to the scorching heat.
According to Article No. 82 regarding driving vehicles with expired tyres, the fine for violators is Dh500, 4 black points and impounding the vehicle for one week.
The Capital police have launched an initiative "Traffic Safety" to check the vehicles' tyres for free at six petrol stations in the emirate, including Al Corniche, Al Mushrif, Al Reem Island, Mahawi, Al Samaha and Khalifa stations.
