sharjah — Two digital scanning vehicles have been launched by the Sharjah Municipality on Saturday to monitor parking violations in high density areas.

The launch of the scanning vehicles is part of the first phase to introduce advanced inspection system in public parking zones, said Thabit Al Taraifi, director-general of the Sharjah Municipality.

“A single inspection vehicle can scan 3,000 vehicles in one hour,” he said.

Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, director of the public parking department at the Sharjah Municipality, said these vehicles will be monitoring areas with touch-enabled payment devices. “The vehicles can read the licence plates and segregate data of fees paid through electronic tickets, long term subscriptions and as well as text messages.”

He added that vehicles will be given a grace period of 10 minutes without paying the fees, the same as earlier.

How the digital scanning vehicle works...

  1. A smart processor will check if a vehicle has exceeded specified time limit or has not paid the parking fee
  2. Image of the vehicle which has exceeded the parking time/not paid are taken and updated to the parking department’s database
  3. Inspectors are alerted with the exact location of the vehicle along with a picture for necessary action to be taken
