Haya calls for unified norms for doctors, nurses

Dubai - Princess Haya bint Hussein, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday called for efforts to develop governance of the council and unify standards of licensing and registration of all health professions, including nursing and midwifery.

Princess Haya gave directives to establish a specialised research centre at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Centre.

Chairing the first meeting of the UAE Nursing and Midwifery Council for this year, Princess Haya also called for continued training for the nursing staff, exchange of expertise and tapping global experiences.

The meeting reviewed the council’s achievements between 2010 and 2012 and its efforts to boost international cooperation and advance customer service.

It also discussed the council’s 2013-2015 strategy and increasing the number of nationals in the nursing workforce.

In attendance at the meeting were Acting Minister of Health Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority Essa Al Maidoor and others.
