UAE considers the ceasefire decision an important step on the road to achieving a lasting political settlement.

The UAE and Egypt welcomed on Friday ceasefire declarations made by Libya's rival governments

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reiterated its position that a political solution is the only way to end the conflict in Libya, under the supervision of the United Nations.

The statement said that the UAE considers the ceasefire decision an important step on the road to achieving a lasting political settlement.

"I welcome statements by Libya's presidential council and the House of Representatives calling for a ceasefire and halting military operations in all Libyan territory," Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said in a tweet.

Tripoli-based, internationally recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) announced a ceasefire on Friday and the Eastern-based Libyan parliament endorsed the same.
