The President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a cable of condolences to President Sahle Work Zewde of Ethiopia, for the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane, which crashed on Sunday.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, sent similar cables to the Ethiopian President.
Earlier in the day, Sheikh Mohamed offered his condolences to the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, on the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines passenger jet on Sunday.
Earlier today, an Ethiopian Airlines flight with 157 people on board crashed shortly after takeoff in the morning from Ethiopia's capital while headed to Nairobi, the airline said. There were no survivors.
Sheikh Mohamed tweeted:

'My sincere condolences to Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the families of the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines passenger jet crash.'


The airline's statement said 149 passengers and eight crew members were thought to be on the Boeing 737 that crashed six minutes after departing Addis Ababa on its way to Kenya's capital.
The crash occurred around Bishoftu, or Debre Zeit, some 50 kilometers south of the capital, shortly after taking off, the airline said.
While the airline said "search and rescue operations are in progress and we have no confirmed information about survivors or any possible casualties", a separate statement by the Ethiopian prime minister's office offered its "deepest condolences" to families.
