The pavilion closure is effective with immediate effect and dates for re-opening "will be confirmed in due course", the Expo 2020 team said.

"Visitors who have already purchased tickets will be able to use them on an alternative day, or can request a refund by contacting 800-EXPO or info@expo2020.ae."

A special preview of Terra had opened for public viewing for a limited time in January.

The Expo 2020 team has offered condolences to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Ruling Family, the government and citizens and residents of the UAE.

Dubai has announced a 10-day mourning period, with flags being flown at half-mast. Work will be suspended in government departments and institutions for three days, starting Thursday.
