Dh10.25m immigration fines of 10 UAE residents waived off

Ten illegal residents had their immigrations fines of Dh10.25 million waived off on a single day in Ajman, a top official told Khaleej Times. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Ajman processed 2,600 applications in the first three days of the visa amnesty scheme.  Major Sultan Al Zaabi, head of communication section, said: "Only 164 applications were processed on the first day though the immigration centre can handle up to 600 applications per day.
More people had visited the immigration centre in Ajman on the first day, but many of them were referred to the emirates where their visas were first processed.
"Some others were only seeking more information, while others needed to complete their documents."
Major Zaabi said the department has initiated a new procedure to ease the process for the illegals who have lost their passports. "They needn't get approval from their sponsors to file a report about lost passports. They can file this report at the immigration headquarters instead of visiting the nearest police station," he said.
The Ajman Police were also of a great help, he noted. "They have increased the number of staff employees and finger print devices to expedite the procedures."
Meanwhile, the immigration department in Ajman organised a workshop for Tasheel agents to develop their awareness about the procedures.
