Just a day before we enter the last and the holiest part of the holy month of Ramadan, the UAE marks the annual Zayed Humanitarian Day today Ramadan 19.
This day is dedicated to the charitable deeds and achievements of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE and coincides with the anniversary of the founders passing in 2004. Since then, the UAE as a nation has marked the legacy of this visionary leader on this day every year as the Zayed Humanitarian Day.
Much like the popular leader himself who was known for his goodness, generosity and charitable work, the UAE dedicates the day to remembering his charity, kindness and good reputation that he exuded throughout his tenure as the Ruler of the UAE from its independence in 1971.
Today, on the 15th anniversary of his death, the UAE celebrates his life by continuing his humanitarian journey by way of conducting philanthropic activities and initiatives across organisations.
The Dubai Police is organising a humanitarian celebration in cooperation with Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, Community Development Authority and Dubai Scout Commission. The event will be held under the theme "Love and Loyalty to Zayed Giving", and will be held in Al Ahli club in Al Nahda area today at 9.30pm.
The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry also recently organised a series of charitable activities including preparing and distributing 1,000 food packets for dhow sailors working at Dubai Creek.
Sheikh Zayed had said: "A good leader never loses sight of what the people need from a leader.peace, prosperity and the chance to live in decency. Too many forget these basics. This is why we witness war, poverty and decay in society."
Celebrating his endless philanthropic efforts throughout his 33 years as the UAE's leader, Zayed was a man who dedicated his life to the service of his country and people. It was his strong faith in Islam and Arabism inspired him to work for the welfare of his country and people.
Leaving behind years of poverty, deprivation and backwardness, he sought to build a new society based on prosperity, justice and dignity. His cardinal aim - welfare of his country and his people.
From making personal visits to people's houses to enquire about their welfare, launching housing projects for the needy to providing food and medicine for people living in poverty regardless of race, language or religion, improving education, Sheikh Zayed's humanitarianism has touched millions of lives. The down-to-earth leader has ever since lived in the hearts of his people.
The Zayed Humanitarian Day came to ease the living conditions of helpless people as directed by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan whose magnanimous actions are spoken of worldwide.
The UAE and its citizens have gained unmatched admiration and respect around the world, and have positioned the country to lead the humanitarian activities at regional and international levels.
