His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, offered his condolences to the Tunisians on the death of the Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi.

"Our condolences to the brotherly Tunisian people on the death of the Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi. He led Tunisia in its most difficult time with wisdom, generosity and competence. May God grant patience to his family and his countrymen", Sheikh Mohammed said in a message on his official Twitter account.
Tunisia's 92-year-old president, who had helped guide the North African country's transition to democracy after a 2011 revolution, passed away earlier on Thursday.
A leading figure in the country's fortunes since the "Arab Spring" uprising eight years ago, Essebsi had been hospitalised late last month for a week after suffering what authorities described as a severe health crisis.
"On Thursday morning, the President of the Republic died at the military hospital in Tunis...The burial ceremony will be announced later," a presidency statement said. The prime minister declared seven days of national mourning.
Tunisia's foreign minister said a state funeral for Essebsi would be held on Saturday and the presidency urged Tunisians to unite and safeguard the nation's present and future.
