Sharjah announces 3.3km world-class beach project
It is expected to attract more tourists and boost economic development
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah approved a landmark Sharjah Beach Development Project on Saturday.
The project, which is part of the strategic plan of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council (SUPC), aims to develop world-class public amenities, enhance tourism infrastructure and improve the standard of living in the emirate. It is expected to attract more tourists and boost economic development.
The Sharjah Beach Development Project will create a popular tourism and leisure destination by transforming the 3.3-kilometre area along the Sharjah Beach Road from the border of Ajman to the Sharjah Ladies Club into a world class public space.
Its contemporary design, premium services, and a wide range of amenities will attract a large number of tourists as well as UAE residents.
Boost tourism, improve quality of life
SUPC is putting all its efforts into creating strategies for the development of the Emirate's public assets in a way they give benefits to citizens, residents, and visitors.
The project is part of the overall pursuit of quality projects with a sustainable strategic dimension that benefits multiple sectors and segments of society in Sharjah.
Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council, said that the Council has made an extra effort to develop a unique design to meet the ambitions of the Ruler of Sharjah and also to enhance the quality of life of the emirate's residents.
The SUPC is confident that the development of the beach will boost tourism and increase commercial as well as economic activities in Sharjah.
Sheikh Khalid added, "We are working in cooperation with the numerous government departments, involved in the project, to play our pivotal role and further improve the standard of living Sharjah."
Eng. Khalid Mohammed Al Ali, Secretary General of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council, said: "The Council is keen to give priority to the implementation of specific projects that will form the nucleus of the transformation being implemented by the Council to improve and develop infrastructure, utility and public services in Sharjah, especially its waterfront areas."
Al Ali mentioned that the unique design of the Sharjah Beach will make it one of the most popular leisure destinations in the emirate where the whole family can relax and participate in various recreational activities along the beach.
He added that the natural elements of the landscaping of the project have been carefully chosen to enhance its aesthetics and further improve the quality of the environment to ensure visitors' comfort. He also indicated that local species of heat and drought-resistant plants have been selected to ensure sustainability of the project.
The project consists of a number of public squares, cycling routes, walking areas, dining zones, shaded areas, along places for water sports activities along the beach. The project also provides all necessary facilities required for visitors such as changing facilities, prayer places, and multiple parking areas for approximately 1,100 vehicles on both sides of the road.
"To meet the needs of a healthy lifestyle, the beach promenade offers different areas for walking, as well as a bicycle lane, which will be linked to a future integrated city-wide network. Additionally, a seating wall will span most of the project offering a place for viewing the sea and relaxation," Al Ali explained.
