For A. Parasuraman, a UAE resident of almost two decades, April 19 was perhaps one of his most momentous here.
He won his first ever prize in the country, picking up the keys to a shiny new Mazda CX-5. As part of Khaleej Times' annual subscription campaign, which has earlier handed over five brand new CX3 cars to its winning readers, Parasuraman struck it lucky this time.
Chosen as the lucky winner among thousands as part of the KT raffle draw, Parasuraman said it was his first time winning anything this big in his life. "When I got the call from KT, I didn't believe it at first. My family and friends also did not believe me, when I told them we won a car from Khaleej Times," he said.
The Indian resident first landed in the UAE in 1999 and works in Ras Al Khaimah, for RAK Cements. He said he subscribed to Khaleej Times to improve his children's reading, vocabulary and knowledge and keep up with the news from back home and around the world.
"I have been a Khaleej Times subscriber for about six years now and I get the paper every day. It's my daily dose of news and I would consider my-self a loyal subscriber," a happy Parasuraman said. "I am so happy to win this prize from Khaleej Times and my family and I are excited to drive back home in our new car".
Currently driving a 4x4, Parasuraman - who loves four-wheel drives - said he is looking forward to getting behind the wheel of his new car, one that he got with very little effort. "I didn't really do anything to win. It was like an everyday thing for us. I got my annual subscription, it had lots of vouchers included and one of them was for the raffle so I just submitted it," he laughed.
Thursday's car handover marked Khaleej Times' final raffle draw for 2018.
