A family in Al Ain is heaping praises on the UAE security mechanism after emergency personnel arrived at their home in under five minutes after dialling 999. The youngest member of the family had got locked in her room, and no one in the family could get it open.
The father then dialled 999, after which officials from Al Ain Police and civil defence reached the spot and broke open the door. Just to be on the safe side, an ambulance was waiting outside on standby, too.
"My 14-year-old daughter, Naureen, was getting ready for school when she closed the door to change clothes. Suddenly there was a commotion and my daughter said she could not open the door. I rushed to the room and tried to open the door, but couldn't. I rushed to my car to call for help and that was when I remembered to dial 999," said Basheer Kottoth, the father.
After he called the emergency number, "paramedics arrived near my house in under five minutes".
"I took the paramedics to my flat, and three minutes later, a civil defence official arrived. He called for backup, and yet another vehicle was outside my flat within minutes. An officer came and instructed me to tell my daughter to stand back."
The officer then broke open the door. "My daughter was fine. In fact she was smiling. A paramedic checked her vital signs and asked her if she was okay."
According to her sister, Nuzha, Naureen went to school happily. "She missed her school bus, but she couldn't wait to tell the story to her friends!"
Basheer was all praise for the efficiency of the security bodies here. "This is how efficiently they responded to my minor emergency, they are well and truly prepared and trained for any emergencies," he said. "In addition to being swift and efficient, they were so courteous."
Basheer was so relieved to receive timely help from the emergency personnel that he dialled 999 again, this time to thank them. "I personally let them know how happy I was with their services."
