The incident happened when the father - identified as HBZ - was trying to open the bottle, which he had received as a gift from his relative in Syria.
Police said that due to huge alcohol content in the bottle - which was locked up for a long time and exposed to heat - it caught fire when the lighter was lit by the little boy and the explosion triggered. The flames badly burnt the face of the father - who was holding the bottle in the hand - and caused burns to the son as well.
The victims have been hospitalised and put on artificial respiratory system. Later, they were shifted to Al Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi, following request of their families.
