Several Etihad Airways flights to Japan have been canceled as super typhoon Hagibis bears down on Tokyo, causing power outages, flooding and widespread travel disruption.

Flight EY888 from Abu Dhabi to Nagoya on October 11 and return flight EY889 from Nagoya to Abu Dhabi on October 12 have also been cancelled.

Japanese authorities have already issued their highest level of disaster warning over torrential rain and tornado-like winds caused by Hagibis, which could be the worst storm in the country for 60 years.
The super typhoon comes as parts of Japan are still recovering from a devastating typhoon that struck a month ago.
"Etihad Airways continues to monitor the situation and will provide continuous updates. Affected guests are being assisted with their onward connections," the airline spokesperson told Khaleej Times.

"We regret the inconvenience caused by this delay. The safety of our guests and crew is Etihad Airways' highest priority," Abu Dhabi-based carrier added.
