When it comes to looking for job opportunities, young Emiratis are no longer distinguishing between government and private sectors. They are hungry to learn new skills and are capable to accept various challenges at workplace.
This is what Khaleej Times has learnt on the first day of three-day Careers UAE 2019, on Tuesday at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Brothers Mohammed Al Marzooqi, 26, and Abdulrahman Al Marzooqi, 21, were among the hundreds of fresh graduates looking for suitable employment at the career fair.
Mohammed, who holds a bachelor degree in legal affairs, told Khaleej Times that he does not discriminate between public and private companies as long as the job is related to his field.
"I'm looking for any position in the legal department and I'm willing to start from the ranks as long as there will be strong chance for me to develop my potential," said Mohammed.
Abdulrahman, who recently graduated from a technical-vocational high school, said he is also looking for a job with either a government or private company.
According to the organisers of Careers UAE 2019, the job fair is aimed at boosting the government plans to increase Emiratisation in the private sector tenfold by 2025.
"Careers UAE 2019 features more than 100 public and private sector exhibitors striving to engage and inspire youth with thousands of diverse job opportunities," said Asma Al Sharif, show director of Careers UAE 2019.
"In recent years, through the government's Emiratisation initiative and vision 2021, there has been an increase in interest from locals to explore roles in the private sector and this has been evident in the number of applications we have received. The challenge is that due to the high number of qualified locals, the private sector job market has become increasingly competitive," added Ali Al Abdulla, head of community, neighbourhood malls development and government affairs at Majid Al Futtaim Properties.
Eman Abdulrazzaq, regional head of human resources, strategy and planning at HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, said: "I can say with full confidence that Emirati talent shines throughout our global organisation as excellent ambassadors of our brand and the region."
