The Community Development Authority (CDA) will be providing tents to Emiratis in Dubai to mourn the loss of their loved ones. These tents will be funded by the government as a way to bolster communal ties and offer financial support to residents of the emirate.
The 'community builders' team that comprises 10 government authorities will offer the service.
The rising costs of funeral services prompted the launch of the new tents, the CDA said. "Such initiatives reinforce the values of social solidarity and communal well-being," the authority said in a Press statement on Saturday. "These values are part and parcel of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as well as the instructions of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council."
Nearly 600 Emirati citizens had died in 2017, authorities revealed.
Those wanting to avail of the service can contact the Roads and Transport Authority on 8009090.
Relatives of the deceased will be put in contact with the CDA, which will coordinate with other government bodies to arrange the tents. The RTA will also place up to 10 signs, directing the mourners to the appropriate areas.
The authorities will also extend temporary electricity lines, as well as set up water tanks, throughout the mourning period.
Dubai's 'community builders' team comprises the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Police, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Municipality, General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Civil Defence, Community Development Authority (CDA), Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS), and Ministry of Health and Community Prevention (Mohap).
