The event will showcase the latest developments in diverse areas such as management of water, land, air, energy and wastes, environmental research, science and technology, environment-friendly transportation and related subjects.
Environment ’05 has made a mark for itself in the calender of events in the entire Middle East and North Africa, consolidating on the experience gained from the two previous editions, said Ahmed Humaid Al Mazrouie, Director General of General Exhibitions Corporation (GEC). He said that Environmental Research and Wildlife Development Agency (ERWDA) is organising the event under the patronage of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
France, Germany, Netherlands, UK, US, Iran and India will participate with official pavilions at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre, the venue of the exhibition covering a net area of 5,000-sqm — an increase of over 30 per cent compared to the last edition — while the number of visitors expected is projected at over 12,000. The Netherlands will be represented by a 50-member delegation, besides three delegations from Germany and over 25 ministers from many countries in the region.
Mr Al Mazrouie referred to the interest evinced by the late president Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in safeguarding and promoting environment that earned him the Golden Panda Award of the World Wildlife Fund for Nature in 1997.
Running alongside the exhibition is a scientific conference on the theme 'sustainable transportation in developing countries and its implications on socio-economic, health and environmental issues.
Five workshops were held yesterday at the capital's latest landmark, Emirate Palace, focussing on the issues of sustainable transportation and its benefits to the economy, fuel economy improvement practices, improving transport systems, sustainable transportation and society and sustainable transportation and health.
The event has served to bring together business and government entities, academics and world bodies, to discuss and exchange notes and experiences on information relating to environmental products, services and technologies," noted Majid Al Mansouri Secretary General of ERWDA.
