Two Asians were killed and two others injured in a horrific collision involving a bus and an unlicenced motorcycle in the industrial area on Sunday evening.
According to a traffic police official, the accident took place after two men on a motorcycle jumped the traffic light, and collided with a bus. The bike veered off the road and flipped over multiple times.
The police said that they received a call at the operations room at 7.50pm about the accident. Traffic patrols, ambulances, paramedics, and rescue teams were immediately despatched to the reported site.
The two motorcycle-borne Asians died on the spot while two others - who were in the bus - received serious injuries and were rushed to Kuwiaiti hospital.
Col Lt Mohamed Al Naqbi, director-general of Sharjah traffic and patrol department, said that Sharjah Police have recently launched inspection campaign targeting unlicenced motorcycles that violate traffic rules. Such motorbikes and cycles are involved in a number of accidents, he added. Police have recently seized many unlicenced bikes during the inspection campaigns. It will continue the crackdown on violating motorcycles and bicycles and also spread awareness among those who ride bikes, including delivery boys.
