Police were alerted of the incident around 11am on Tuesday morning.

A 21-year-old Emirati citizen succumbed to fatal injuries in a gruesome traffic accident on the Ras Al Khaimah ring road opposite Shamal area, 5km to the north of the RAK city on Tuesday morning.

Eye witnesses told Khaleej Times that the Emirati young man, M.R.D, based in Al Rams area, had been speeding and lost control of the steering wheel, smashing into the concrete barrier of the iron bridge ahead.

"The young motorist instantly lost his life after ramming into the iron bridge at Shamal area. His car was completely destroyed due to the impact of the mishap."

Brigadier Salem Rabea Al Shwaidi, acting director general of the central operations room of RAK police, said they were alerted about the incident on Tuesday morning around 11am.

"The central operations room of Ras Al Khaimah police dispatched traffic patrols, ambulances, civil defence men, paramedics, and rescue teams to the site."

Initial enactment blamed the horrible road accident on speeding, he added. "After slamming into the iron bridge's concrete barrier, the car flipped over several times."

The victim sustained serious injuries, fractures, and excessive bleeding all over his body.

"Though the victim was rushed to the Saqr hospital, he didn't make it and breathed his last before being admitted to the intensive care unit," Brig Suwaidi disclosed.

"The corpse of the deceased was shifted to the morgue of the hospital for burial by relatives as is due. The accident file was referred to enforcement bodies for legal action."

Brig Suwaidi said all motorists need to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations. "Speeding, inattentive driving, ignoring safety space, and jumping red lights are some of the main reasons behind deadly accidents on the roads of the entire country."

Abdullah Salem Al Shamili, an Emirati citizen of Shamal area, urged the installation of a warning traffic light alerting motorists about the iron bridge.

"The iron bridge may also be painted with phosphoric paints to be clearly seen by motorists," added that the tragedy might have been avoided if the driver could've seen it clearly.

"This is actually the second grave traffic accident on the same road and along the same bridge. The ministry of infrastructure development and RAK traffic police have to take immediate action to ensure road users' safety."

Funeral prayers will be performed at the Sheikh Rashid Masjid in Al Rams area. His body will be buried in Rams Cemetery.
