School zones across Dubai reported a 33 per cent drop in criminal reports and 78 per cent decline in traffic accidents.
This has been achieved thanks to the Dubai Police Schools Security initiative, which sees the cops strengthen partnership with the educational sector to improve security services.
According to Brigadier Saeed Hamad bin Sulaiman, Director of Al Rashidiya Police Station and Head of Schools Security, the initiative aims to:
>> Enhance traffic safety in school zones.
>> Promote criminal and health awareness culture among children.
>> Educate kids about their rights and duties toward their communities and nation.
It also aims at consolidating the concept of community police for all students and parents.
"Last year, we received 12 criminal reports and 9 traffic ones, which were submitted electronically as the emirate's schools switched to distance learning during the pandemic," Brig. Sulaiman added.
Reach: 132,000 people
Brigadier Sulaiman explained that they collaborated with a number of strategic partners to carry out 81 events and programmes that benefited more than 132,000 people.
Of these, 23 events were organised during the Covid-19 outbreak, raising the awareness of 83,571 students about the precautionary measures against the new coronavirus.
