Salah Bou Farroucha Al Felasi, head of Dubai Traffic Prosecution, said that the female driver admitted during investigation to having committed a mistake by unintentionally pressing the accelerator pedal instead of the brakes. She has been placed in detention pending the completion of the investigation.
The accident led to the death of the 4-year-old girl and injury of her mother, of Indian nationality, outside the school. The mishap happened when the driver was reversing and allegedly ran over the child and her mother who were in the school parking lot.
"We are yet to receive the relevant surveillance footage that can be helpful in the probe. We already have the technical reports. We will listen to all witnesses to determine how the accident took place."
The chief prosecutor pointed out that the driver will stand trial at the Dubai Traffic Court.
Even though no official charges will be laid against her until the end of the investigation, she could be accused of causing the wrongful death of a person, injuring another, driving inattentively and causing property damage.
