Schools snap ties with DPS society over 'fees'

Dubai - Prior to the public notice, Khaleej Times had reported that a source at the DPS Society had confirmed that the affiliation had ended.

The Delhi Private School in Dubai and Sharjah have claimed that the Delhi Public School (DPS) Society was after a "steep hike" in tuition fees, which ultimately broke the affiliation between the two. It was said in a circular sent to the parents of the students.
On June 7, the DPS Society, a well-known education trust with 11 schools abroad, announced and confirmed in a public notice exclusively in Khaleej Times, that there was no legal relationship between the society and schools in Dubai and Sharjah anymore.
Prior to the public notice, Khaleej Times had reported that a source at the DPS Society had confirmed that the affiliation had ended. However, the pro-vice chairman of Delhi Private School Dubai, Dinesh Kothari, had denied the news and insisted their relationship with the society was still intact and that their contract was under renewal.
After the public notice by the society, DPS Dubai and Sharjah sent out a circular to parents, claiming that DPS Society was after a fee increase.
"We wish to put to rest any confusion with respect to our current relationship with the DPS Society. During the past year, there have been commercial negotiations between the management of DPS Dubai and DPS Society w.r.t (with regards to) fee increase. We did not wish our parents to be saddled with any additional financial burden; which would be the invariable result of the steep hike that was sought by DPS Society," the circular said.
"The management and DPS Dubai remain hopeful that the matter would be resolved, as we are appreciative of the fact that our school has had a positive and close association with the DPS Society from the establishment of both DPS Sharjah and DPS Dubai. However, it would be fair to say that the needs of schools, internationally, are somewhat different from schools in India and both our schools have evolved through the years, amalgamating the best of the rigor of Indian education with international best practices of teaching and learning."
The notice further highlighted their academic and co-curricular achievements in the past year, including their "Very Good rating, their TIMSS and PISA results and outstanding results in their international benchmarking tests".
The school also said that it will have no structural changes within the school, including its name, logo and leadership team.
