Middlesex University Dubai’s new education model for 2020/2021

As universities and educational institutions across the globe develop and finalise innovative teaching methods alongside the implementation of rigorous health and safety measures to allow students to receive the highest standard of education while feeling safe on campus, students and parents will be asking:

“What is the best study option for me or my child?”

“What measures have been put in place to protect students on campuses?”

“Will my student experience be compromised if I decide to study online?”

Students who had opted to travel overseas are now looking for an international experience closer to home. Whether this means studying 100% online or studying on campus, Middlesex University Dubai has launched its ‘Think Smart. Study Different’ educational model which grants students the option to choose between two modes of study: Blended Learning or Distance Learning.

Those who are still looking to experience life on campus can opt for the ‘Blended Learning’ mode, combining face-to-face classes with online learning while providing students with the reassurance that they will have the faculty and learning interactions they hoped for, while adhering to strict health and safety guidelines. Students who are unable to travel, have underlying health issues or are not yet comfortable with being on campus can choose the ‘Distance Learning’ approach which is 100% online – enabling students to pursue their university studies without having to physically come to the campus.

“This year has witnessed unprecedented times and we understand that many students will have their own concerns and feelings about returning to campus this September. In order to put students at ease and allow flexibility, we have implemented two modes of learning to allow students to choose the option that they feel comfortable with,” commented Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai.

“Our students can expect to receive an unparalleled student experience and a world-class standard of education, regardless of their mode of study”.

Students who come to the university campus will see that strict health and safety measures have been put in place to ensure that their health and safety is not compromised. These measures and protocols include social distancing at all times, reduced class sizes, temperature checks and sanitisation procedures, the mandatory use of face masks, as well as a Track and Trace System that records when individuals enter and leave the campus buildings.

The online learning mode will be supported by state-of-the-art learning platforms such as Microsoft Teams – allowing faculty to livestream their lectures and provide a similar experience to what students would receive if they were in the classroom. Students will continue to receive full support from the university’s student services teams including the Centre for Academic Success and the Careers and Employability Service – who will deliver academic workshops, careers support and networking events, and 1:1 consultations via virtual methods.

Middlesex University Dubai understands the importance of the student experience outside of the classroom – from extracurricular activities to social events. Many students will be wondering if they will still get that same ‘university experience’ if they choose to study online, and the answer is – yes! The university is taking its social experience online – from social club meetings, dance workshops, music nights, culinary workshops and fitness workouts – students are guaranteed to receive a student experience unlike any other.

Throughout the lockdown period, Middlesex University Dubai has showcased its ability to adapt and respond to change quickly and efficiently to ensure that education never stops. In a time of uncertainty, students and parents can rest assured knowing they will always be supported.

Classes for Online Learning and Blended Learning begin on 20 September 2020. Choose a university that promises adaptability, flexibility, a world-class education and a student experience unlike any other. Choose Middlesex University Dubai for a Quality UK Degree.
