AI-powered Alef platform to reach 196 public schools in UAE by year end

Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven learning platform, currently being implemented at public schools in the UAE, will make students' learning experience interactive and engaging, an educational expert has said.
Geoffrey Alphonso, CEO Alef Education, said the AI-driven Alef learning platform is helping to support students' needs by processing data and scaffolding personalised content to advance on their own learning path.
The platform is expected to be implemented across 196 public schools in the country by end of this year, according to the Ministry of Education (MoE).
Real-time assessment
"Every lesson measures formative and summative assessment to real time and relevant feedback is provided to students, teachers and parents to help close the achievement and skill mastery gap that are usually not understood until a termly assessment," said Alphonso.
The digital interface is intuitive, easy to use and is constantly being refined with field research to continue to drive the high level of adoption across our learner ecosystem, he added. "It contains all the lessons that students need in line with the MoE curriculum. As students' progress through the lessons, the platform will provide teachers with real-time data to monitor their students' performance," said Alphonso.
He added: "Our educational approach is to build specific digital learning experiences that engage students in academic subjects through videos, interactivities and games. The core essence of the approach is breaking the content for bite-sized consumption by the students of the digital era."
Reaching out to more students
The web-based Alef Platform will be used to teach additional 40,000 plus students from grades five to nine this year and will cover grades 10,11 and 12 during the next academic year.
The MoE decided to adopt the Alef platform in public schools across the country after its success in Abu Dhabi, where it was launched back in 2017. Since then, more than 100,000 students in 150 public schools in Abu Dhabi and one public school in Fujairah have been using the platform as a primary mode of learning.
Interest-based learning
The AI-powered Alef platform will encourage students to drive their own learning through passion-based strategies, facilitating greater engagement in academic learning. For example, if a student is interested in medicine and perhaps wishes to one day become a doctor, in the future, the system will push the most relevant math and science content to that student to help her to eventually achieve this goal.
Teachers and students will also have access to several academic programs to support them throughout their journey in self-learning. Additionally, Alef Education will conduct virtual sessions for teachers on a monthly basis to cover the new upgrades in the platform with focus on the practices that give impetus to the learning process.
