The World Scholar's Cup (WSC) is a global debating tournament, attracting students from over all over the World, is being held in Dubai.
This year, The Debating Society of Gems Modern Academy under the leadership of their Head of Debating Mrs Sumana Chatterjee, is hosting the Round 2, of World Scholars Cup, UAE.
640 students from 26 schools in UAE are participating in this regional round.
The event is being held from May 17 to 18 at the school premises.
The competition was founded by DemiDec, in particular by Daniel Berdichevsky, DemiDec's president, in 2006. 
The World Scholar's Cup has attracted what it calls "a global community of future scholars and leaders", and provides a platform to the young generation to "discover strengths and skills you never knew you had."
It focuses on bringing students from different cultures together to discuss issues and ideas relevant to today.

Gems Modern Academy is the reigning champion in Debating in World Scholar's Cup 2017 held at University of Yale.
The students qualifying in the regional series go for the global round in Spain and then the qualifiers from there go on to the final the Champion's round in Yale University
A team for the World Scholar's Cup is usually composed of three students but under exceptional circumstances, may contain two.
The teams are typically made up of students from the same school, but mixed teams are allowed.
Students have the option of forming 'independent teams' that may include students from other schools or even other countries.
Each team participates in the four standard round events.

The competition has a senior and junior level. Students below the age of 14 participate in the junior division, while students 15 and above participate in the senior division.
There are four levels in this competition including Debating, Essay writing, Quiz and Individual subject knowledge round.
