Tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart at the recently concluded SF Jazz Gala 2017 in San Francisco.
Mickey and Hussain have been collaborating on numerous albums and stage shows over the years. The Indian tabla player was an integral contributor to Hart's 1991 album Planet Drum and the percussionists also teamed up on the Global Drum Project and shared numerous live stages - including Grateful Dead shows - over the past several decades. Both drummers performed together in October at the University Of California Berkeley.

Husain was awarded the titles of Padma Shri in 1988 and Padma Bhushan in 2002, becoming the youngest percussionist to be awarded these highest titles, given to civilians of merit by the Indian Government.
His daughter Anisa made a short film, featuring rare footage from the maestro's journey.

The Grammy Award-winning tabla maestro Zakir Hussain will be in Dubai with his Nirvana concert series on January 27 at the Dubai Tennis Stadium.
