A total of 1,303 new food establishments were opened in Dubai in 2020. This means that on an average, over three eateries opened every day last year.
Sultan Al Taher, director of food inspection section, Dubai Municipality, said on Tuesday that Dubai has 19,259 food establishments. This is expected to reach 20,000 before Expo 2020 Dubai, which starts in October.
“The emirate enjoys a global reputation and great confidence among investors. It also enjoys consumers’ confidence in the regulatory authorities that ensure the health and safety of the food served. The food safety system in Dubai is distinguished as it is a smart one, which has made the emirate one of the best cities in the world in this field,” Al Taher said.
He noted that many international food outlets want to open their branches in Dubai.
“When the year 2020 witnessed the spread of Covid-19, Dubai took all necessary preventive and precautionary measures. This strengthened its position as one of the safest and most secure cities in the world,” the official said.
He said the Dubai government has also provided support through economic stimulus packages to ensure business continuity and sustainability.
