Tailor, aides rob Dh70,000 jewellery from Dubai villa

Dubai - The thieves got away with two watches worth Dh48,000 and other jewellery.

A Pakistani tailor stood trial on Monday at the Court of First Instance for allegedly breaking into a villa, along with other runaway accomplices, and robbing about Dh70,000 worth of jewellery.
The court was told the 33-year-old man gained access to the private property in Jumeirah after climbing the villa gate and breaking the locks of the main door with sharp tools.
The thieves got away with two watches worth Dh48,000 and other jewellery, including bracelets, earrings, and necklaces, worth Dh20,600.
He denied, in court, the charges of forced robbery at night with the use of sharp tools, damage of private property and trespass.
The incident was reported on February 16, last year, to Bur Dubai police station.
"We nabbed the defendant after receiving reliable information he was involved in the robbery," said a police sergeant.
"We brought him to the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation, where he willingly confessed to the break-in and robbery. He said they entered the villa, located in Jumeirah, around 2am after breaking the main door. They sold the stolen jewellery later in Sharjah."
The sergeant told the prosecutor the tailor admitted to raiding other residences at night time in the same area using sharp tools. The accused led the police officers to the villa he and his accomplices had robbed the jewellery from.
