A newborn was found dead in a landfill in Sharjah on Saturday morning. A garbage collector found the baby girl, who was just two days old, in Al Sajjah landfill.
The garbage collector, who works for environmental and waste management company Bee'ah, informed the police control room as soon as he spotted the body. A team of police patrols, forensics officers and criminal investigation department (CID) was dispatched to the site.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the baby girl died after being strangled by someone. There was also "severe damage in the skull", a police official said.
Prima facie, the police believe the girl was born out of wedlock and her parents decided to get rid of her by strangling her and smashing her head against something.
The police have collected fingerprints and other forensic evidence from the site. The body has been transferred to the forensic laboratory for further investigation.
The police have launched a manhunt for the baby's parents. When arrested, they will be charged with premeditated murder and adultery.
