A 50-year-old Jordanian housewife, along with her son (20) and two daughters - aged 23 and 31, stood trial at a Dubai court on charges of torturing, illegally confining her other daughter, and beating her up for a long time.
The victim's Jordanian father, 66, and another daughter, 25, are charged at the Court of First Instance with failing to report those crimes to the police.
A complaint was registered last year at Al Barsha police station.
The 26-year-old victim said she had not been getting along with her mother since 2009.
"She used to confine me in my room, firmly lock all the windows and door, and deprive me of food. She would also beat me up, together with my brother. My two sisters would help them assault me while my brother would use a stun gun on me."
The victim said they would assault her with their hands and sometimes with a stick which made her lose her front teeth.
The mother would give instructions to her daughters to keep the victim locked up inside her room. The victim managed to run away and report them to the police in January 2017 when her mother was on a trip out of the UAE.
The victim's 15-year-old sister, who helped her break free from the house, said her mother had been having disputes with her sister. "Since I was 6 years old, the disputes had been there. My mother and brother used to beat my sister up. She used to lock her up inside her room and provide her with few meals. My mother would give us instructions to lock her room with a key whenever she is away."
The younger sister said none of them could help the victim out of fear from the main accused. "But I could help her leave the house when our mother was on a trip and complain to the police," the sister told the prosecutor.
The witness testified that her brother had a stun gun.
A police corporal, who interviewed the mother and all parties in the case, said the woman admitted to the charges. "She (the mother) confessed that she used to torture and lock up the victim without giving any justification for her acts. She also confessed she sent messages to her daughters, instructing them to keep the victim confined in her room."
