A man, accused of trying to kill his ex-wife by pouring acid on her, was ordered by the Court of First Instance to be examined for mental sanity.
The GCC national - who is facing a premeditated attempted murder charge - is set to be examined by a special committee of psychiatrists to see whether he is mentally stable and how responsible he could be held for his actions.
The attack took place at the victim's office when the accused barged inside locking the door behind him. He took his ex-wife by surprise when he poured the chemical substance on her that impacted most of her body.
Given the nature and gravity of the attack, prosecutors believe the man wanted to kill his ex-wife. The defendant had previous disputes with the divorcee and he planned the attack in advance. He caused her aggravated bodily harm because of the attack that left her with up to 80 per cent burns.
Public prosecution records show the man too had to be urgently taken to the hospital as his hands were accidentally burned during the heinous crime.
