The Dubai Police have arrested a Pakistani national for killing an Ethiopian woman over financial disputes.
Giving details of the case, Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for criminal affairs, said the Dubai Police had received a report on the death of an African woman in her apartment in Al Baraha area.
Khaleej Times has learnt that the police received information about a foul smell emanating from the apartment and rushed to the site. An Indian watchman told the police that the smell came from a flat in the second floor. When the police opened the flat, they found the decomposed body of a woman, who had died at least a few days earlier.
They identified the victim as P.L. and further investigations showed that the woman, who was here on visit visa, had a relation with a Pakistani man, A.O., who was living in Al Ain. The police detained him and during the interrogation, he confessed that he had taken a bus from Al Ain to have sex with the victim, as he did before a few months earlier.
He headed to her flat at 3am and had sex with her twice and paid Dh200. However, he told the victim that he wanted to stay until morning and she asked him for an additional Dh200. The suspect told the police that he was upset with her and strangled her while she was going to washroom. He then stole Dh450, her two mobile phones and the money he gave her earlier from her cupboard.
He then locked the flat and slept in a park. In the morning, he sold the stolen phone and returned to Al Ain from where he was arrested.
Lt-Col Adel Al Joker, director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Dubai Police, confirmed that the police assigned all its teams in the field to trace the perpetrator. "Within 24 hours, our teams identified the suspect and his nationality. He turned out to be a 32-year-old Asian resident who had accompanied the woman to her apartment. The Dubai Police teams were able to locate the perpetrator's residence and arrested him in a record time."
