The Ras Al Khaimah Misdemenour Court has sentenced an Asian man to six months in prison to be followed by deportation for possessing and trading in firecrackers without licence.
The suspect was found guilty of illegally obtaining firecrackers and storing it in a way that poses a grave risk to peoples' life.
However, the court ordered the release of another defendant in the case for lack of evidence.
The court records show that the RAK public prosecution charged the suspect with possessing and trading in firecrackers without acquiring a licence by bodies authorised to do so.
The duo was also charged with storing the explosive items in a place not suitable for the purpose.
The defence lawyer of the second defendant requested the court to release his client based on the "invalidity" of the arrest and absence of solid proof against him.
He also said: "The first defendant denied all the charges from the very beginning, and the lawsuit documents included no single evidence regarding his knowledge about the crime."
"This means that he did not have any intention to commit the crime, and has then to be set free."
