A group of Asians have been arrested red-handed in Sharjah's Al Dhaid area for preparing expired food and cosmetic products for distribution among consumers. They were caught while changing the date of production and the validity prescribed on product labels.

They stored the goods in the backyard of a warehouse located in Al Dhaid industrial area. Fourteen tonnes of goods were seized and destroyed by Al Dhaid Municipality.

Ali Musabah Al Tuneiji, director of Al Dhaid Municipality, said the suspects' visas had expired and they were staying illegally. "They ran a warehouse that lacked minimum environmental and sanitary conditions and standards. The warehouses contained tonnes of expired food and cosmetic products. They were preparing to distribute the harmful products to consumers in some neighbouring emirates."

Al Tuneiji said the warehouse belonged to a licensed company in Sharjah. The municipality seized two trucks that were to be used to transport the goods, in addition to a sewing machine used to sew the packs and an electronic scale.
